Supporting each other
We spoke to Alex Black, Regional Clinical Lead & CBT Therapist in Glasgow. Alex joined Nuffield Health 5 years ago to start his career in mental wellbeing.
How long have you worked for Nuffield Health? 5 years
Tell us about the team you work in?
I work with an amazing group of therapists, all with varying backgrounds and specialisms. Everyone is really keen and eager to support one another, which makes working from home at times much easier. I am also lucky to work as part of a team in one of the gyms, where everyone is also really welcoming and easy-going.
Why did you choose to work at Nuffield Health?
Nuffield Health offered me a great opportunity to start my career, with a big focus on combining physical and mental health. This wing of the company was fairly new when I started, so I have been able to grow alongside it and be part of a really exciting project.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Nuffield Health?
The team are amazing, and always eager to support. This is true for everyone at all levels, and has been something that has really been a cornerstone of the Mental Wellbeing team at Nuffield Health.
What is your career highlights?
There are many parts of my career at Nuffield Health that have been exciting; however the stand outs would have to include getting my accreditation with the BABCP, and beginning to work with more complex difficulties. Taking on my most recent roll of Regional Clinic Lead is really exciting too, and I’m looking forward to the new challenges that come with it.
Tell us about your career progression at Nuffield Health?
Initially I started my career at Nuffield Health as an Emotional Wellbeing Therapist, providing CBT for low-intensity caseloads. I was then able to take on the CBT Therapist role after my accreditation, which involved taking on more complex, or High-Intensity, difficulties. Now, currently, I’ve been very lucky to take on the Regional Clinical Lead role, where I will be aiming to provide support to other CBT therapists and engage with other parts of the business.
How do you use your employee benefits?
The employee benefit that I utilise the most definitely has to be the gym, or the discount for coffee. Using CPD for developing my skills in other areas of CBT has also been a great benefit career-wise, and something I really try to get the most out of.
